What Donezy collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.

Last updated 24 September 2026

This policy explains what information Donezy (“we”, “us”) collects when you use the Donezy mobile app, how it is used, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

We collect information you provide or create while using the app:

  • Account details — your name, email address, and an account identifier.
  • Group and expense data — groups and their members, expenses, who paid and how a cost is split, balances, settlement records, descriptions, notes and categories.
  • Payment details you enter — UPI IDs, and metadata about UPI settlement attempts (recipient UPI ID, amount, reference or transaction identifier, status).
  • Images you upload — group photos and expense receipt images.
  • People you add — names and contact details of people you add to groups, invite, or save in your friends directory, including any you choose to import from your device contacts.
  • Device notification token — if you allow notifications, a push token that lets us deliver notifications to your device.

Signing in

You can sign in with an email address and password, or with Google Sign-In. If you use Google Sign-In, Google shares your name and email address with Donezy; we do not receive your Google password.

Device contacts

If you choose to import people from your device contacts, Donezy accesses contacts only after you grant permission, and only the details of the contacts you select (such as names and phone numbers) are stored — to help you add group members, send invitations and build your friends directory.

Contact access is optional. You can always add people manually, and Donezy works without it.

How we use information

We use this information to:

  • create and manage your Donezy account;
  • calculate shared balances and keep group expense histories;
  • provide settlement and UPI hand-off features;
  • support invitations and your friends directory;
  • sync your information across your devices;
  • send the notifications and reminders you enable;
  • prevent unauthorised access, abuse and fraud; and
  • operate, maintain and improve the app.

UPI and payments

Donezy is not a bank, wallet or payment processor and does not hold user funds. When you choose a UPI settlement option, Donezy opens a UPI app installed on your device and passes it the payment details — recipient UPI ID, amount and a reference.

The UPI app and your bank process the payment under their own terms and privacy policies. We never see or store your bank credentials, card numbers, UPI PIN or OTPs. Donezy stores the settlement-attempt details listed above so that group balances stay accurate.

Notifications and reminders

If you allow notifications, we use a push notification service to send you notifications about activity in your groups, such as new expenses, settlements and invitations. Your device's push token is stored with your account for this purpose.

Due-date and balance reminders you turn on are calculated and scheduled on your device. You can turn notifications and reminders off in the app or in your device settings at any time.

Who can see your information

Information in a group — its expenses, balances, photos, receipts and member names — is visible to the members of that group. Your profile name is visible to people you share a group with.

Service providers

Donezy relies on service providers that process data on our behalf:

  • Cloud hosting — secure servers for sign-in, the database, file storage and backend processing.
  • Push notifications — delivering the notifications you allow to your device.
  • Sign-in — Google, if you choose to sign in with your Google account.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or share it with advertisers or data brokers. We disclose information only when required by law.

Blocking

If you block another Donezy user, we store a record linking your account to theirs so we can hide them from your Friends list, people pickers and Activity filter, and mask their name in groups you already share. You can remove a block at any time from Settings.

Security

All data is sent over encrypted connections. Access controls restrict group and financial information to signed-in users who are allowed to see it.

Your choices and rights

  • View and edit your profile and UPI ID in the app.
  • Export a copy of your data from Settings.
  • Turn notifications and reminders on or off.
  • Delete your account at any time — see Delete your account.

You can also contact us at support@donezy.in to access, correct or delete your information.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account, your sign-in account, profile, UPI ID, friends directory, imported contacts, push token and block list are permanently deleted.

Shared expense records that other group members rely on are kept in anonymised form — no longer linked to you — so their balances remain correct. You can delete your account in the app or request deletion through our Delete your account page.

Children

Donezy is intended for people aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our features or data practices change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
